Shudder

Hi all I'm new to this forum and guess I'll make use of this forum often as I'm located in Abuja, Nigeria where the Land Rover know how and fix is an absolute problem. If you take your vehicle to the dealers they will give you the answer that it is normal. I own a Discovery 4 V8 HSE 2010 American spec with 180000km on the Odo. An absolute beast but as of recently I experience a shudder during gentle acceleration only. I did replace the oil and oil filter on my truck but to no avail. I've replaced the propeller shaft last week but the problem is not leaving my truck making for a very uncomffy ride. Any advice please.

Not a common issue on a LR4 to my knowledge.

My first question is any fault codes..?

Or is it truly a “shudder” and not a “vibration” ?

Front end been checked? Lower control arm bushings , ball joints? Steering linkage components????

Hi no I didn't replace the front front drive haft but checked it visually all seems to be fine there. I did replace the suspension tho, if I say suspension I mean everything from pump to balloons ball joints lower and upper control arms air pump filters and what more. This is Nigeria and roads are not really roads its all 4x4 tracks and I drive a lot. Use the truck between the two major cities at least twice a month. To come back to the shudder, sure feels like driving on those bad back gravel roads all the time. What I did realize this morning is that when the oils are cool its seems to be fine but once temperatures pick up the shudder kicks in. I met up with a range rover specialist in Abuja yesterday he reckons its the transfer case. Apparently happens often even on the 2018 range sport according to him. I called my mechanic down in Lagos he confirmed it but I'm still not convinced. When I did the suspension I repacked all the CV joints as well. So it really boils down to gearbox, transfer case or front differential. It's working with oils, has bearings and propels the truck. My research show the gearbox is strong but nothing is mentioned abt the other two.

Could it be the differentials? Also those 5.0 V8's engines suffer from bad timing chain tensioners.

Good evening all just feedback. New transfer case was fitted today but shudder still there. Now we have to replace gearbox or rebuild it at 200k km. It's an expensive exercise but that's what you get when you want to travel in style. Will update soon.

Feedback again after 2 long weeks with elections and and. I have replaced the transfer case, both drive shafts front and back and the shudder/vibration is still there. What else could be the problem or should one start to look at that 6 speed gearbox. Cheapest I've seen is some $2000 without getting it into my country. My suspension is fine everything there was replaced last year end.

Good morning guys, been long but finally sorted the shudder after replacing both drive shafts, transfer case, drained the gearbox oil 3 times at rediceolous cost and all it was was the torque converter. Also didn't come cheap but now she is ?
