Just got back from the dealer w/ my wife...she wants a LR...I want a new Volvo XC90...

I was very pleased with the rig (went over the test track out back)!!!! It's an 02 SE Westminster package...40K...black on black...the salesman said it's rare....$25,995...looks very clean...anyone heard of these?

Any thoughts, please?

oh...the salesman (my nextdoor neighbor a trustworthy soul) said he originally leased the car out a few years back to the first and only owner....

The Westmister's are rare indeed, but do not warrant the $24,995 asking price. As a matter of fact, I've never even heard of an 02' Disco wearing the Westminster badge. On the Range Rover however, there was nothing real special about that model other than the name tag, it's basically an SE model.

KBB gives an 02' Discovery SE in EXCELLENT condition for $21,435 (Private Party Value).

he sed that the interior was usually a gray color and this one was done up special in black...

I was realy suprised wen he took us on the course and parked the car across a 33 degree incline....and then sed....they can actually drive accross 42 degrees

If you have 25k to pay, you should be able to get yourself into a 2004 for about that price.. I've heard many people who have gotten lightly used, or in some rare cases new ones for that.

An 02 Westminster had different wheels, shitty NAV, and different wood. It was about $2k more than a comparable model. Nice truck, but "rare" is relative. Price is a bit strong for the mileage. Westminster Range was black on black with Lux and black wood. It also had 20" wheels ($4,000 option on other models) It also had the first rain sensing wipers, although they forgot to put the rain sensor in a lot of them...

The rims and rain sensing wipers were on the Range Rover Westminster, not the Discovery Westminster unfortunatley.

KBB trade in value is $18,675 so you know what you have to work with.

If you do in fact have 25K to put down on a D2, then I would suggest an 04 model. With that you get the higher HP 4.6 liter as well as CDL. If you do not know what CDL is, it's the Center Differential Lock. Land Rover removed this feature on the D2 and in 2004, they brought it back my popular demand. You also get the upgraded front end with much better headlamps and a few other goodies. Not going to say that the 02 is a bad year, but with an 04', you also get all the scheduled maint. covered until 50K. You may be money ahead if you plan on keeping it a few years, service can be expensive on these vehicles.

I agree with 02disco2, for the money, go for an '04, you'll surely be better off from the service/monetary standpoint.

I would suggest doing the "back seat" test ;) No really, the biggest issue we have with our Discovery is back seat space and getting our little girl in and out of her car seat... Hop in and out of both cars to see which one is more comfortable for your passengers. No doubt, in my book the Discovery is great for the driver and seating up front is great! Unfortunately, keepping the wheelbase short forced the rear doors around the wheel well and makes it tight. The Volvo has huge rear doors, much like the Lexus. For me I'd go for the Discovery, but unfortunately my familly would go for the Volvo...

Discovery II rear seat

I agree with the rear seat issue. I love my rig, but I truely hate with a capital H! It is so hard to get my 5 year old in and out of the car and the door doesn't open very wide so it is hard for him to get out on his own. That is my only problem and it drives me nuts.

Also, that price is not so bad up here in the Northwest! the prices for Land Rovers are very high here. I know it sounds crazy.

well i did some more shopping around via auto trader and found two almost identical 04 SE7's (seating for 7!!) for $29K and only 22K on the clock...

if i can get the 02 Westminster for around 19k (the interior was awesome!)...i may go for that...if not i may try to barter them down on the 04.

i did the back seat room test....my youngest is already 12 YOA...so its not that big of a deal...but nerf/step sides wood def be a plus +++

i think the Volvo is def out of the question now that the wife has driven the disco....Ive got 2 Volvo's already (98 V70XC and a 98 S70GLT) and the my son is werking on getting number 3 (95 850 T5R)....
