What would be the benefit of ditching them? There's no power to be gained, the exhaust note wouldn't change, your truck would smell of raw exhaust. You'd also have to deal with O2 sensor codes since you'd get a "no activity" code that would force your ECU to run rich.
A brand new aftermarket y-pipe would run $400, and I'm sure you can find a used item locally for less than half that. If you're really strapped for cash then buy a couple of "universal" units and have them welded in place of the OEM versions.
