I am wandering how much wear can be on the oil pump housing from the broken oil pump before I need to worry about replacing the cover as well?
There is minor groves that can be felt with your finger nail, both on the broken oil pump as well as the housing. Is it safe to put the new oil pump in the original housing with minor groves or not.
It has 112,000 miles on it so I don't think theres any issues with the dowel placement on this one.
Thinking about just putting the new pump in as well as a new timing chain as well as new head gaskets.
I would really like disco mikes take on this if he's reads this.

Dowel pins are not an issue on 04's.
At your mileage, I would also advise replacing the timing chain set and throw in a 180 degree t/stat for good measure.

Ok thanks for the replys, Just want to be sure that were not going to have any issues with the oil pump housing. I'm not sure if scotchbrite will take out the score marks in the housing from the oil pump. Hopefully I explained the issue enough.
The outer edge of the outer pump gear is scored and has scored the cover and I am just wanting to be sure that a new pump that is smooth won't cause any wearing to the scored housing and put any more shaving in the oil that could cause any other problems.
disco mike replyed after KyleT mentioned using scotchbrite and didn't say anything about the wear marks so hopefully that was because that maybe I won't need to worry about it just smooth out the housing and put it back together and enjoy another 100,000 mi. NIGHTOWLOR

Depending on the amount of wear, you may be OK but if cut up too much a new front cover may be required, if so, might want to call pall grant for a good used replacement.

It's not cut up to bad, I guess I would say it is like a brake disc that has minor to medium groves in it enough that you would want to have it turned when changing your brake pads, you wouldn't want to put new pads on a grooved brake disc, but on this based on the price of a replacement cover I'm hoping that we can sand it or use scotchbrite to smooth it out and be ok. I don't know if there is a tolerant issue when doing some sanding to the cover or not. Another thought, Is the outer gear of the pump smooth on the outside edge or are they grooved and that the housing is that way normally, just an after thought. since I've never seen one until now. I know it's hard to give advise on something like this without seeing it and we tried to take pics but couldn't really see the issue.
