Strange electrical problem has surfaced in our '96 Disco 1. Problem seems to be only at cold start ups or when the engine isn't fully warm and I fooiishly turn off.

When you turn the key to start, there is about a 1/2 second delay before the starter engages and the engine won't fire. Remove the key, reinsert and turn again and it starts.

I have the impression this occurs when the weather has just turned damper. Suspect that I have a bad electrical contact somewhere - not a surprise as the vehicle has never been garaged and lives in the Pacific coast of Canada.

Has anyone had success figuring this out this type of problem?

Cheers,

Pavel

engine control ecu just forward of the management computer offside wing. Is about 1"x4"x3" plastic box with rounded corners mounted on a bracket forward of the main ECU (against bulkhead) and behind the carbon evap canister. I had this problem on a 96 and eventually would get no spark. Was full of green nasty stuff. Good luck:)
