Unfortunately I cannot answer your question but I can share in your pain.
After my most recent R&R of my headliner, the second row dome light will NOT turn on manually. it turns on when the doors open, but remains off when i kick the switch on.
it should be, from side to side: ALWAYS ON/OPEN DOOR/OFF
but mine is now: OFF/OPEN DOOR/OFF
i assumed it was a grounding problem of some sort, as my understanding is such (please correct me if i'm wrong):
light bulb has +12V at all times
switch to on supplies -12V
switch from door supplies -12V
most cars do it this way as a precaution, so that if the trigger gets shorted to the chassis, it's shorting ground to ground not +12V to ground resulting in sparks, fuse blows, and eventual discharge of the battery
i would venture to say that only door trigger is on a shutdown timer, so if you're dealing with a forever-on light, either the ON switch is shorted to ground, or there's a fault with the timer (less likely in my head).
i hope that helps!
