Hey guys, new to this forum and just had couple of questions answered.
So my dad just got a 2006 Land Rover LR3 from a friend of his for a pretty good price. The problem is that The SUV sometimes wont start. when you get in and turn the keys, the lights and everything turns on but the engine won't. After couple of tries some times more, it works. I mean i have driven the SUV and it is fantastic, it has no issues what so ever but that little problem becomes a major one. After searching online and reading bunch of threads on forums, i realized that i am not the only one this happens to. I found out that the Engine immolizes it self for some security reason.
My dad has asked a mechanic friend of his and he said that he could disable and take out the securtiy thing. oh and it also has some kind of automate security system which i dont get.
So do you guys think that this would work. Or are there any other better solutions to this.

And another question is that is this a reliable vehicle? Right now im driving a 2006 Dodge caravan which is definetely reliable but im getting bored of it so thought why not switch to LR3. Im also studying away from home so i usually drive home and back almost every weekend or so. its about 400kms away and the dodge caravan takes it pretty well. But of course i will only keep the Lr3 if the engine immobilizing problem is gone for good because if i stop for a break in the middle of somewhere and come back and not be able to start me vehicle, i had be in big trouble.

so yeah, Any Solutions to my problem and some advice would be great. Thankyou!

And sorry for the long post :smile

Hi, IMO you should rule out a starter solenoid or circuit issue before thinking to immobiliser cos as long as you unlocked it with the fob and it worked there's a very small chance to be the immobiliser, see this http://www.disco3.co.uk/gallery/alb...etin_-_Starter_Motor_Solenoid_Replacement.pdf , i didnt play much within a D3's engine bay but if you can gain some access to the starter next time when it makes tricks on you find a way to give a tug to the starter with something then try to crank it and if it works then that's it.

Sounds like its an LR3 with the 4.0 Ford V6 engine, these V6's had a lot of issues with starting, compared to the Jag V8 LR3's.

This symptom's diagnosis is described at page 3 of that service bulletin ... if it's immobiliser issue there will be a fault code logged for that, if no code it's starter related
