Hope I don't make a huge debate about this, but... I recently got a "work car" and my DII barely cleared 700 miles in the last 12 months since the last oil change. Ordinarily I would change at 5,000, but right now that could be a few years out.

Do you change your oil based on miles or time?

Rotella T6 5w-40, K&N 3001 filter btw.

3000 miles or once a year if under 3000 miles.
I would be more concerned with your gas getting stail.

Yeah, I thought about that too. I keep a 1/3 tank and end up going to the pump about once a month so there's always a fairly fresh mix. No issues yet.

What's the argument to change based on a time interval? What happens to a full-syn oil to require a change after XX months?

Just call the tech line for the brand of oil you use, they well know.

The problem with keeping only 1/3 of a tank is that you get condensation. You'd probably be better filling the tank and using fuel stabilizer.
