Is it me or does my 2002 Disco II just get really bad gas mileage no matter how I drive. I've gotten anywhere from 6MPG to 11MPG at best. I havent checked it lately but dayumm you know. I forcefully drive in Manual mode instead of Sport to save gas. Maybe its due to liiving in california and it takes acceleration to move around here? i mean its not like i floor it at every light or anything. hmm
I guess I wouldnt be concerned if gas (91) wasn't $2.59 and going up everyday.

That is indeed poor MPG, even for a whopping V8 in a heavy 4x4.

If you're driving methods make no difference, the only thing that I can think of is the Air Flow Meter.

This is the device mounted in the air intake that measures how much air the engine is sucking in, and so tells the computer how much fuel to inject to match it. They do tend to fail after a bit, and the computer then resorts to a 'default' setting, which is wrong 60% of the time = bad fuel consumption.

The part is not expensive and a dealer might even have on 'on the shelf'.

I'm sorry to bring up this old thing again, but here in the UK petrol costs around $7.00 a gallon (of which 75% is tax  )! This is why I with my 2.25 diesel pumping out all of 62 horsepower envy those who can get US-spec Land Rovers with beefy Rover V8s in them (the engine the Land Rover was born to have :) ) and afford to run them!
