I disconnected the central-locking module in the driver's door in order to replace the outer door latch that broke. I dis-connected the battery per manual instructions. but when I re-connected the battery, the central lock system continually cycles the locks on/off, plus the alarm goes off.

WTF did I do wrong, and how do I STOP it???

Have you tried locking and unlocking the drivers door with the key. This can sometimes reset things. Or try starting the car. Or use the fob to lock and unlock the car.

Sorry, forgot to add: I first used the key to lock/unlock the door, THEN I started the car, and the symptoms stopped. Whew! But when I shut it off......it started up again, locking/unlocking, horn honking.

I don't have a keyfob, only keys.
