I have been reading the info on tires with extreme interest, but have a question SPECIFICALLY for a 95 LWB with a FULLY FUNCTIONAL EAS. Therefore, I am seeking info about the MAX tire size I can put on my stock rims keeping in mind that with the EAS, they need to clear the wheel wells even when at lowest or "access/highway" mode. I have scoured the archives but have not seen this particular application addressed - any help is deeply appreciated! -Denver Dan

Dan - I think I have the largest on mine. They are 215/85/R16 Dunlop Rovers and they fit very well. Unfortunately my girl is converted to springs. BUT - measure the distance when yours is in the highway/low mode and I will measure the distance on mine and let you know!

Measure from the rim edge to the bottom of the wheel well. I will measure my tire width from rim to tread...that should give you the answer I would think??

here are the #'s

Thanks Jonesy! With EAS at lowest possible setting, and with front wheels turned to all possible angles, tested on both flat and extreme angled locations, the smallest measurement I get between the outer edge of the rim and the outer edge of the fender is 6 and 1/8 inches :dunno: That seems mighty small to me, but I guess that's all I have to work with until I do a modified body and suspension platform lift like many that are displayed at roversnorth.com Knowing this, what are the widest and tallest tires I can fit? I'm currently running (winter) Synchrones at 205/80r16 on my stock rims. Thanks again for your time! -Dan

did my homework

Thanks Serg! I really wouldn't be treading upon this subject again :) if I hadn't already searched past posts on this, and many other sites - the trouble is that NO ONE addresses rigs that are still using FULLY FUNCTIONAL EAS. There's a lot of info on coil-over conversion tire sizes, but that is significantly different than what the EAS allows... I know I'm a purist, but I do consider the EAS a mark of distinction for the brand as well as a highly capable off road system when used intelligently, and consider these ridiculously small Synchrones to be the only truly necessary improvement area (I recently replaced all four air bladders and work monthly on maintaining the EAS overall system). P.S. I built an '89 Jeep YJ up to a 2" body, 4" suspenion lift, 33" Pro-comps, anti-sway bar disconnects, ARB lockers, Rancho 9000 etc, etc, etc - and just last weekend took my 95 LWB on the same trails as my YJ with ZERO performance issues (this even with some snow/ice in the deeper parts of the trail) - only area I avoided was one of my favorite rock wall climbs due to these smaller tires. -Dan

My local Tires Plus store will mount and let you "test" the tires before you are happy.

The largest without rubbing I have heard of is 215. I think 225s will fit but they rub if I remember correctly.

I have springs so I'm not going to be very helpful.

Dan - here is the skinny....my standard rims with the Dunlop Rovers mentioned previously are 6 3/4" from the rim to the edge of the tread. Now here is the key for you where you should have no problems...they do not protrude from the wheel well. That is to say they are 16" wide so will not hit or rub the wheel arch!!!! There is plenty of room in the wheel well. BOTTOM LINE = I think you will be fine! Have them mounted and test them......Take it to the shop and see. PS because you live in CO you can use the Big O tires too....just a thought as they prob have a really good aggressive pattern.

GOOD LUCK!!!!!

Thank you!

Thanks to all who responded! Looks like the 225/75R16 is the largest possible for active EAS (93-95) without any modifications. A few folks have informed me they run 235's, but with wheel arch and steering modifications...so there it is. I'll post an update with a photo once I get them mounted. Thanks, Denver Dan

A few "before" pics

Here are a few pix from the San Jaun Nat'l Forest in S.W. Colorado today (5-17) BEFORE I replace the Synchrone 205/80's with 225/75's. These Synchrones are impressive off road, asI had no trouble today with 18-20" snow banks and large drifts combined with lot's of "clay" mud (slick). No traction or handling problems, except just too small. -Denver Dan
