Hey all, im new to the LR scene, i've been off-roading with my buddy's old range rover and really liked it, and im looking for some more information. his was teh body style around 94-95ish, what series RR is this called? also, i doubt it, especially in the US, but did any come in a manual transmission? :buttrock:
my last question is if i got one with 100,000 miles in fairly good condition, what would the regular maintenance.normal problems amouint to in the near future....
i would do anything i could myself, but i'm used to old bmw's and my subaru, not a british beast engine. thanks for any help guys, and i look forward to owning a RR.

That would be the Range Rover Classic.. either the short wheel base (SWB) or Long Wheel base (LWB).. never came as stick in the US.

Most LR's leak something all the time... on the RRC I would check to make sure all the hoses and belts are good. If it has Air Suspension it is expensive to fix, but cheap to replace with shocks and springs. These are very robust vehicles.

I would just add that if you are going to use it offroad alot, I wouldn't want a manual tranny. Too much to do if you need to make some quick decisions/reactions. An automatic will be just fine. Besides...how are you going to play with your CDL & ABS if you need to keep riding that clutch???


Oh yeah...about the leaks...it's sort of nature's way of lubricating them. They ALL leak somewhere. Don't worry about that part and don't worry about trying to fix the leaks, unless you have to fill it up EVERY time you drive it.

If you locate one you like, just post a pic and some info and we'll "gladly" give you our beer soaked opinions.

I have a 92 RRC (Range Rover Classic) I use it for off-road very often.. The engine has 165,000 miles and runs great. Pretty much stay away from the air suspension and if it has a large leak fix it if it is small, let it be... Really if you come across one you like post it here along with problems younotice and someone is bound to help...Some things i look for are records.. A lot of rovers had some time had the head gasket replaced. Check bushings on suspension.. a cheap fix but a lot of times dealers/sellers think the noise is the transmission or worse. I have had great luck with mine.. I pull trailers, 4-wheel, and basically use the heck out of it and it never has let me down.. As always go to other sites and see what they say.. A lot of what i have found talks about leaks and lack of power....what they loose in off line power the more then make up for in the dirt... I wouldn't want any other 4-wheeel drive...

me neither. these are the classiest off road vehicles around. as for the off roading, im not going to be going to moab or tahoe to take it on a tour, just randomn sideline expeditions with friends and the capability to get where i need to go is what im looking for. i doubt i would want a manual, but i was curious anyway. thanks again for the help and i'll be sure to post more when i get closer to buying...

x2 I hate auto,,,,,,,,on road. Off-road a whole different story. Manual is a pain in the ass. All but the most experienced stall frequently, and at inopportune moments.
