ABS Sensors Replacement

1540 Views 6 Replies 3 Participants Last post by  Jameskemi
I recently bought a 2004 Land Rover Discovery SE and love it. It's in great condition and the price was right. I want to replace the front and rear ABS sensors. I purchased a set and when I went to install realized that the system had been modified and now hardwired directly to the abs computer (?) under the dash. The old plug connections were cut off and rewired as mentioned above. Is there any way to still use the set I have i.e. splicing into the modified wiring or is that not possible/advisable?

Any advise would certainly be appreciated.

Thanks.

i spliced my front two sensors inside the cab at the ECU. i didnt want any loose or open spots that would allow moisture to seep in.

here is a video that talks about them being spliced. from Alantic british.

Thanks for your reply. I looked at the video. My sensors are already hardwired like the video. What I'm trying to do is replace the old sensors with new ones via the modified wiring if that makes sense using the sensors (with short wiring).
you can splice them to the old wiring. if you cant make it to the ecu. splice them as close to the vehicle frame as you can and heat shrink them and make sure they are water tight. might even use some liquid electrical tape after you heat shrink them.

Solder the connections if possible.
np. thats why we are all here. to help each other out.
Try to cut pretty close and solder /heat shrink wrap
