Hi all,
I need to replace AC/Heater switches on my center dash on 95 RR LWB and wondering how hard it is to take the facia off to install the switches.
Has anyone done this before and can you advise on procedure on taking the trim off?

Heater switch access......

Hi,
I took mine off last week but its a 1991 RRC, not sure if its the same heater control panel on the later models???
For mine I simply pulled off all the black plastic knobs, un-did the 3 philips screws, the carefully levered the panel off from the top edge. Doing this exposed all the electric controls behind, its amazing how many little plastic parts that are just waiting to break! I fired some contact/head cleaner into the fan speed slide switch & the hot-cold slide switch, also the little contact switch that switches from dash front grilles to window defrost.
Getting it back on is tricky as I had to get all the little levers through the little slots all at the same time, if one lever doesn't exactly line up it wont go back on. Also while you are in behind the panel its a good time to change any burnt out lightbulbs that illuminate your heater control panel,
Andy

I am having issues with this as well. I didn't have to take all that crap out to get at the workings though.

I have the idea of installing another on/off switch to controll the air con. currently it is in the 3rd position next to "outside air" and "recirculate air" and it is impossible to have the air con on recirculate.

on a 40degree day the a/c is not very effective. Also when you put the A/c on it redirects the flow of air to the front vents from wherever you had it set (if that makes sense).

Has anybody else had this drama?

Cheers

My 1991 fan switch stopped working at mid speed, hi and low ok. I assume it's switch.

Pulled two screws on the control facia plate off but the wood trim holding the vents interferred with removal. After removing screws from underside, I slowly pulled up on wood trim and found very small screws hold wood to a metal plate. It was then somewhat messed up but I didn't care.

Reassembly, Took out all the small screws and put 4 small philip head finish screws (from the front)centered above the 4 vent to hold securely. I drilled pilot holes that matched to the small screw holes above vent, then beveled with large drill bit.

(Back to problem) The fan switch is held inplace by two philips but you need a small philips head racket since you can not get screwdriver. I had ~1" clearance to screw head. I used contact cleaner but no help. The switch is ~$50 so I said forget it and reassembled.

$60 for the used switch

I got the used switch. I am planning on replacing the switch this weekend.
I will let you know how that goes. In the mean time, I am also going to replace the cup holder that is broken and was rattling for a while. :drink1:

One light bulb

It seems you have 95 RR. If you do, the two dials are illuminated by one lightbulb that transmits light thru clear plastic reflector in the switch itself.
So, you will need to take the switch off to replace the lightbulb.

arrrgghhhh...

So on my '95 classic, I have the heater control knobs and face plate off. I took off the 4 screws holding the heater controls. Here are my problems:

I can't get the clock bezel off compleltely, I don't want to break it.
Do i need to unplug and remove all 6 auxiliary switches?
How do I get the damn stereo out? I loosened the allen bolts, but it won't come out.
Do I need to remove the whole black center facia to get the heater controls out, or can I just angle the bottom out?

Unfortunately

Yes. You have to take the whole facia off to get to the heater control.
Radio is easy to remove. As long as you loosened the two bolts, it slides right out. Yes. You have to remove the switches to get the facia off.
Be very careful when you are removing the facia. It si britle little thing and don't want to break it since it costs $275.

Ok... how does the subwoofer switch come off? Also I am afraid of breaking the clock bezel.. how does it pop off? I got one side of it off, but the other side (side facing the center of the console) does not want to budge?

Also where have you guys found replacements for the heater/ac switch and how much?

I belive they have painless blower replacement for sale. It is not simple but not too terrible to replace. Need patience to do this part.
Let me know if you need procedure.

I have the Rave CD manual.. however all it says on removal of blower motor is to remove the 2 screws.. I am not sure where the dang thing is.. I pretty certain it is BEHIND the heater control panel.. and that thing has all sorts of crap I am not to thrilled about trying to remove... aaarrrgghhhh
