Now that ive had all my motor issuses resolved(leaks, codes, etc,)and my 00 LR Disco 2 is running smoother and better then ever, im looking to add some HP. I understand that brand new 13 years ago it had 188bhp, but that just isnt enough for a 6000lb truck. Im considering installing some direct fit stainlees high flow cats, and cat back exhaust system to open it up. Also ive been doing some research about air intake systems, but ive seen alot guys on here talk about how the oil in the k&n filters can harm the motor. I just want to get some opinions and suggestions on how i can get a little bit more out of my truck without tearing the motor apart again. Any and all responses are welcomed, thanks.:drive:

First, there is no such thing as cheap additional horse power for a Rover. Yes better cats and a cat back will give you something under 4 or 5 more horse power, but that isn't cheap.
To have an engine breathe better, that starts inside the engine, bigger cam, ported heads and manifold, bigger injectors, headers, then the exhaust work then you have now added more heat to the engine which can cause a dropped sleeve so you should also install top hats. Now you have cleared $6000 to $7000 and you will need to beef up your ZF 22 tranny to handle the extra power as well as replacing both diffs with lockers to get rid of the 2 spider gear set up that can't handle the extra power either.
That being said, be happy with what you have and go wheeling once you set up your t/case with CDL.

Thanks Mike, im not planning on going that far to get extra horsepower. So I guess i should just enjoy my truck now that its running well. I think i will put the effort into the front drive shaft first, then go from there. The truck has 139*** miles on it. Im gonna go back and review the your sticky for high milers. Im sure theres plenty of stuff that still needs done.

I would suggest you do everything on the list, if you have any questions, give me a shout.
Also seriously consider up-grading the t/case with a CDL linkage for a lot more traction.

Also, if you feel you are mechanical enough to rebuild the drive shaft, I can send you a PDF on how to do it along with part numbers, just send me your e-mail and I'll send it to you.

Cheapest thing would be to drop in a 4.6 from a Range Rover P38A. But it's not cheap, the part about be 1 to 2 grand.

Also, the truck doesn't weigh 6000 lbs, unless you a driving it around with 4 passengers and the cargo area packed to the roof. :)
Curb weight is more like 4800 lbs.

I know the drive shaft really needs done,im sure im running on borrowed time. With that said im sure i can handle the rebuild, im a industrial mechanic with certs in hydra.pneu.and am certified arch, mig and tig welding. My e-mail is [email protected]. Thanks for the help Mike its greatly appreciated.
With any mechanical ability I think you can rebuild the front shaft, use the instructions from Mike and use the good parts. You may even want to buy a spare that needs rebuilding and do that one.
