Think I remember an old thread where someone did this. There were pics and it looked really good; looked like it came from the factory.

I used one of these https://www.ebay.com/itm/2-52mm-dual-hole-mount-dash-gauge-pod-pillar-holder-black/291998649541?_trkparms=aid=222007&algo=SIM.MBE&ao=2&asc=52475&meid=7e75a9a4ceff497bba1dee8569c7109e&pid=100005&rk=6&rkt=6&sd=220744596774&itm=291998649541&_trksid=p2047675.c100005.m1851 it needed very little "adjustment" with the grinder inside and at the bottom to fit well and it looks like in the attached pic, i fixed it with pop rivets cos it's empty inside and it was enough space behind it to leave longer wires as to be able to replace the gauge if it fails or something so no need to be removed whatsoever... i have coolant temp and EGT gauges cos that's enough for me but there are 3 hole versions too

a tutorial here https://landroverforums.com/forum/discovery-ii-18/installing-temp-gauge-2003-disco-ii-33833/
