Help - I just had my alternator replaced on my 1991 RR Great Divide and every belt that is put on breaks. The belt gets very warm and I can smell the burning just before it snaps. Any assistance to this problem would be very helpfully...I can not drive more than 2 miles before it snaps.
Remove belt and spin alternator. It should spin freely. I suspect alternator needs to be replaced.
If not the problem check to make sure the power steering pulley aligns with the alternator pulley. The pw. steering is driven off crack shaft and it drives alternator. The crank to steering belt should be toward rear. Steering to alt. in front.
Since the alternator has just been replaced, then, the breaking belt is due to your pulleys not lining up.
