Ive got a good friend with a 95' DI with 25,000 miles on it (which could be a bad bad thing) and he has been having horrible issues with changing from Hi to Low and back. It refuses to switch....as if its jammed.

The first problem is that the linkage broke in half because of rust or something, and since then the whole linkage has been replaced. There is still this problem. Btw, it can lock the CDL fine...its only switching Hi-Low.

Any ideas??

im 99% sure its that little bastard solenoid on the top of the transfer case. i had the same problem for about 6 months after i picked up my truck. you'll have to take off the center console and drill out the rivets holding the tranny lever (its not that bad) its a stumpy looking cylidar with a wire or two coming out of it. just be careful when shifting from high to low, or you'll get a pleasant grinding noise.

just for the record, before someone hinted that it could be that solenoid, and where i found out it was, i was driving around for about a month with my center console out and my tranny lever being held on with the cable. i could see the road while driving and once in a whilei would get a metal shaving (from the drilling) in my eye. i was determined to not put it back in until the problem was solved. :buttrock:

Yeah, it sucks to keep pulling the console trying to fix it like I did.
