Have an 05 V8 with about 220k miles on the clock. Slips between 4, 5 and 6th and makes a grinding noise in the process. Some times it throws a transmission fault but if I back off the acceleration it will usually catch and not give a fault.

Anyways I sourced a good used one out of another 05 V8. I'm debating having an independent shop do it or do it myself.

Has anyone done it? Any surprises?

at a Shop in LA there was a general mercedes, BMW, LR indy mechanic who was swapping one on a RRS, but it had 330K on it. Have you ever changed the pan and trans fluid on it? I imagined at this point you have had this done several times. I did mine at 88K.
