Here are a few of my girl at the beach, oh and the wife, after she said "why the F are you taking pictures of your car and not me and the kids" - My dearest just has no idea of my love affair....the kids understand funnily enough :dunno:

This was down in NC - Fenwick Beach......great place to go to get away from the crowds - which are everywhere!!!!

Very nice truck. Is it necessary to use diff-lock when on the beach? Air down? I was just at Assateague, Md, last weekend, and was tempted to go out on the beach with my '98 disco, but the diff lock is frozen and I did not want to embarrass myself, or the LR brand, by getting stuck!

Enjoy your family!!!! :)

Kiernan: Funnily enough if you air down, sometimes as low as 20psi you will be fine. I didnt air down, i dont have diff lock...I do have TC though.

You can really get stuck in sand if your angle of attack on a dune is incorrect. ie do not go straight up even the slightest hill. And like mud just keep your momentum, if you spin, back out and get a better runup.

It is sooooooooo much fun on the beach...unless you are like a bloke that day in his monster Expedition that got stuck, tried to power his way out and blew his transmission up...left tranny parts and oil all over the beach. It took four trucks to try and pull him out and one pushing...they gave up in the end and one guy told me that the Beach Patrol were calling the National Guard up to come and haul his ass out with a tank. The missus wouldnt let us wait 3hrs to see it.

Of course as always use your common sense - seems like LR drivers in general have a lot more of that.....ie your thoughts, but next time give it a go, air down a bit and you will be fine.:rellye :rellye

Cheers,

20 psi is very high for where I go in the sand. I usually go down to 13-16 psi. It's definitely a good idea to have your diff lock on hand, but I wouldn't start out with it locked. When going into soft sand I'd lock it up.

Jonesy: You do have a diff lock, just not as k12 does in his Disco1

whatchya mean by "I have a diff lock not like the D2" ?????

I know I have traction control but I am unaware of diff locks on the 95LWB, me thinks you may be thinking of the earlier model years my friend.

You mean disco1? Disco2 has no diff lock whatsoever relies completely on TC (unless you go under and lock it on the t-case or get it as an option on the 04's).

Instead of a diff lock you have a Viscous Coupling. Allows some slip, but not too much. It's an "auto" diff lock in effect. Read up on it. Great system! I just mean you don't have to pull a lever to actuate a diff lock, but you still do have one. Earlier model classic's (pre 89 I think?) had the same system as the disco 1's. Actually that's where the disco's got it.
