Gentlemen,

I was napping under the wife's '96 Disco and happened to notice a strange localized rust area under the B pillar on the right side of the vehicle's body. The area is rusted right through and seems to correspond to where the pillar is welded to the sill/rail that runs the length of the side. There's no evidence of the same problem on the other side. It's almost as if the vertical pillar pushed through the sill somehow and is protruding at a slight angle downward... The vehicle isn't very rusty at all, so this is a bit unexpected.

I guess I'll have to cut out the rot and weld in a small 1" x 6" patch. Is there supposed to be a drain there? There is a leak at the front right side foot well (from the windshield?) - is it possible water has migrated along the sill backward and collected there?

Has anyone come across this specific problem before.... advice?

Thank you, Pavel

This a common rust area on Discos. I am in the UK and there are lots of suppliers that provide replacement B post bottom sections. Even including postage you will be better served replacing the bottom with one of these sections. It is a simple job to weld in the replacement.

Suppliers in the UK.
