Brake Controller

Do I need an after market brake controller to tow with a 2023 Defender 110 with factory towing package? I suspect that the LR system would be braking efficiently and retarding the vehicle and appropriately using the electronic brakes on the trailer. Would an after market controller just be a device to see what force the trailer brakes are applying? Does the Defender screen show that anyway? Thank you, I'm new to this, I live in Colorado, the Defender is a US spec and will have US tow hitch and 7 point connector.
