Once you DO get it open, loosen the locknut on the hood lock spindle, and turn it out a half or one turn, then retighten the locknut. Grease up the lockplate and spindle with white, lithium grease.

I think it may only require the lubricaton, because when I went out and pulled it to show the person where the lever was the hood literally poped open.
Anyway guys thanx for the help. As a new owner I find this site holds invaluable information.
