So - I searched threads and no real help there. Their is a terrible rattle coming from the underbelly - I took it in becasue I was scared it was tranny related. Fortunately it was diagnosed as a cat problem. However the cost is $900 to replace them....I have heard urban legends of blokes putting in framing screws through cats to stop the rattles.....:dunno: :dunno:

Any ideas - or help????

Cheers :drink1:

YOu can replace them with Summit Racing cats for around $70 each. I believe the number is CTO 6905. Or just go to a muffler shop and have them weld on a new one. You can try the screws also...

Hey Jonsey, thats $900 if you want to replace the whole Y-pipe with both cats on them, and if the pipes are stainless steel.

Look into these...

Part Number : CTO-6905 from Summit Racing

Those are the ones for my D1, dont know if the measurements will match your pipes but search under CatCo and you'll see they have a ton of different dia. Cats.

Sweet - thanks for the info you two!!

Any idea on the in and out measurements for my RRC - she is 95 with 4.2l engine. Seems as if the D1 should be the same - most everything else is!

Cheers John - one more question - can you just replace the cats? Or do you have to replace the pipe, I would guess the old ones would need to be cut off then the new ones fitted which would result in shortening the length of the pipes overall????

Also - Is this somethin I can do at home?

Thanks,

If you can weld than you can do it at home. If not just bring them to an independant muffler shop and they'll weld them on for you. We normally pay $300 to have a shop weld on the two cats, muffler and install the headers.

Headman Headers are 119.95 but you have to modify them to fit a LHD Rover. The flanges are pretty thin. You can get them from Summit Racing.

We sell tha Janspeed Headers for $490. They come with the threaded holes for the O2 sensors and you don't have to modify them to clear the steering shaft. The flanges are thicker than the Headmans. Janspeed makes the exhaust for Overfinch.

WOW those are slick!.. I bet you would get a few ponies out of those puppies. Do they take a standard exhaust gasket? and would you use grade 8 bolts with them? I was just looking at my old headers thinking " man i could use some better flow" They just look like they would clog the flow. I ordered a new Steering shaft as my rubber coupler was cracked and hard as a rock, Why would they put that so close to the headers?? At least put a heat shield around it. I have some flexible shield material that i am going to clamp on to prevent having to replace that $125.00 part!..

Thanks for the info and pics John. I just put in a new Alternator, Amp, Sub, and I have a new radiator ready to go in, so after spending all that money I am going to put it on my wish list....

The Headman's are made for RHD Rovers and that's why the LH side touches the steering shaft. Jason Michaels was looking into getting them to make a LHD version.

The stock steering shaft came with a heat blanket (snap on type). Do you still have yours?

Yes, you can use the stock gasket and yes you do get a few more ponies with the Janspeed.... even more if you have the ports polished.

We did the Headman Headers on my partners 91 RR and what a difference! The increase in HP is noticeable.

OK, Lets say you take the screws in the cat route. Do you think a stainless sheet rock screw(s) would work. Does the exhaust leak after screw installation?? Thanks!!
I used some screws I had lying around. They were about 3 inches long and thicker than drywall screws. I am sure the drywall screws would work just predrill the holes. I didnt notice any leaks after installing the screws.
