Ok I just installed a Disco 1 cdl in my Disco 2, I didn't bend the hi-lo lever but instead followed Mr. T's advice on using a rod end bearing in this forum thread. http://www.landroversonly.com/forums/f40/discovery-1-cdl-into-discovery-2-a-56893/
Everything is installed but nothing is buttoned down yet. My question is, when I have the lever in the Hi gear position and put in drive the truck won't move, if I move the lever forward a little the truck engages and drives, how do you adjust the hi-lo lever? What am I doing wrong. How much of a range does the lever suppose to have? I do know that when I first fiddled with the regular hi-lo selector before the cdl install it was pretty hard to engage, I think the previous owner never used the lo setting. Any info would be much appreciated.

Did your rod-end thread onto the original shift rod? Thats where any adjustment would be. The only thing I don't like about that design is the long bolt attaching the rod end to the shift arm on the TC. You've already experienced it; the difficulty in shifting from high to low and vice-versa. It doesn't get a whole lot easier, even when used often. That bolt is going to bend and eventually break. I used the "bend" method and had another piece of arm with the factory adjuster welded to it to make up for the loss of length. Strong as hell and still has the factory adjustor.

Yeah the rod end did thread right on, I might need to cut a little more of the threads off the lever so I can adjust the rod end so the bolt and rod-end line up a little better. My lever moves front to back pretty good, but when its in high and I put it in drive nada. I have to nudge it forward like where neutral would be for it to engage.

I had to cut a little more off the hi lo shifter lever threads for my rod-end bearing to line up, and now my cdl works great :) Shifts very fluid like.

Hey MX,
To clarify, did you already have the actual CDL mechanism on your D2, and you only hooked-up a linkage? Or did you convert a non-CDL housing to the modified locking version?

Yup I had the cdl nipple and all I had to do was hook up my D1 lever, works great now. Only having a problem with my dash diff light. There is none. But there was one when I first installed it and was checking everything out. Hmmmm, and yes I've driven forward and even backwards after locking my diffs. still no light???

Have you driven any distance (on dirt) after locking the T/C? Sometimes my dash light takes a little bit before illuminating.

Yup. I've driven with my CDL locked for about a quarter mile on dirt. No light. I wonder if maybe the bulb burned out on my dash. I do get the chime and the flashing gear icon when I'm between gears telling me I'm not in diff lock though.
