I have a 96 D1 SD.
I was driving today and this clanking and grinding noise has started from under the gear-box and it seems real severe. I looked underneath and found oil covering alot things. Basically I was looking to see if any metal was hanging and pulled into the drive shaft. Any thoughts on this?
At the moment i am trying to replace my 5-speed transmission as it is in bad shape.
On another note has anyone ever installed their hand brake and gaiter without the clip and clevis pin?

1st 2nd 3rd gears are making this clanking noise (I don't no what else to say) it seems at the time immediately after shifing the noise is the worst and it clanks' & grinds' for about 3-5 seconds and then it is fine. The problem does not seem to happen when the truck is over 35-40 mph. I will take your advice and not drive it for now.
I got back under the truck today and as I said it looks it is leaking quite a bit of oil.
So last night I checked the oil level and it needed a quart. But then on another note when I went to open the hood I could not disengage the hood lever. When I pull it will not unlock the metal peice on the hood that fits into the hole on the body. Any suggestions of how to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance.
