As jobs go on a LR I would say its one of the easier ones. Yes the old 1 will have to be cut out and new 1 made up and welded back into place.
If u haven't bought the S3 check around the firewall, door pillars, underneath chassis etc 4 other signs of rust as the rear crossmenmber could be only the 'tip of the iceberg' as it was in a rusty vehicle.
If it is just the rear crossmember and u intend doing a bit of "off roading" it is a good time to make it a bit stronger 4 those times when u need to be pulled out of a bog, removeable trailer coupling to get better exit angle, strong recovery points, etc. Should be able to knock the selling price down a bit to pay 4 the repairs.
PS Thats not my highlight on "off roading"
