Hey all,
I've got a "99 disco 2 with 76k miles, and I keep getting ABS/TC/downhill assist lights on my dash. The code I get is p1590: vehicle speed control, aux inputs. I've checked the resistance of my wheel speed sensors, all within spec. I think the sensors are ok because the lights come on before the truck is even rolling. The check engine light also keeps coming on and the codes p0174, p0171 (Lean condition right and left banks) show up fifty or so miles of driving after clearing them. I'm affraid I've run out of ideas and the last thing I want to do is take it to the thief, uh, I mean dealer. Any Ideas???

I have a 2000 Discovery II and had the same warning lights come on. I brought it to the dealer and was told that the previous owner had aftermarket brake pads put on that vibrate differently than stock. This vibration causes the system to shut down the ABS, downhill and traction control. I was told that replacing the pads to factory pads should fix the problem. If you find out something different please let me know.

I had a similar problem just before my 60K service in a 2001 Disco II adn the dealer sorted it out without any problems, something electronically they tweak and that is all. Happened only once (touch wood) since then and I am now at 86K.

I have the same problem and remember exactly when it start...the real problem is that my hub seal did break, grease went contaminated got out of the hub, and one internal piece from the bearing broke a little part of the sensor...you have to take out this last one to see if ok or not.....

As for the running lean, you need a new map sensor. I just did mine and it cleared it right up.

WOW I have the same truck year , and the same problems . I mean you have a clone of my truck with the problems .

Like the dude with the s2000 in the sig . I changed the Mass air and those lean codes went away . The cost was $153 or something like that . I changed it and the only code left is p1590 .
Now SATAN told me that the hug needs to be replaced . But I don't belive it .
Since the ABS and all those lights Go on WHEEENN i turn the wheels to the left hard ( the cable is in the back on the wheel and it gets streched) So my theory is that I have a broken harnes . Cause the truck is NOT moving and the sencor is not getting any speed reading at all . All the ABS computer get's the line low ( no voltage on one of the wires ) . And that makes the computer throw a light . But If i get the wheels straight and roll pass 10MPH the ABS warning light gose out , untill I turn left only .

So this is the only thing left for me to fix that is kind of major.

I do have to adjust the driver door , so it dose not hang on the door latch , and fix the rear whiper mottor .

But yeah the Mass air metter worked for me too.
Now I need to take the wheel off and see what's up with that front passanger ABS sencor ( that wheel gets a lot of brake dust ;) ) And SATAN had to huck up their fancy computer to tell me that's that wheel has the faulty ABS codes .

YOU DONT HAVE TO REPLACE THE MAF (mass air flow) sensor. Buy a can of QD (quick dry) electronics cleaner, about 2.99 at any auto shop, remove the maf, spray the hell outta the thing inside - being careful not to touch the wires - let it dry and re-install. Rarely, i mean rarely does the maf ever go bad.

I did that , cause there was oil on the inside of that Maf . And still was throwing a code for me .

So mine was bad :(

I had a similiar problem (Error codes P0734, P0171, P0174). Thanks to the advice from a fellow forum member, I focused my efforts on the MAF. I tried cleaning it with carburetor cleaner and the codes disappeared for a week or so and then would come back. I eventually replaced the MAF with a part from Rover North ($142 including shipping (received it the next day!)). I haven't seen the codes since. Maybe the carburator cleaner was too strong and ate away at the sensitive film or electronics.....next time i'll try a electronic part cleaner first. Thanks everyone for your advice, Jim
