I have a 1998 discovery 1 and the brake lights are stuck on. I purchased and installed a new switch. when the switch is connected and i move the plunger with my finger the brake lights go on and off normally, but when the switch is installed the brake pedal doesn't rise high enough to turn off the brake lights. The new switch and the old switch appear to be identical. I did replace the brake booster last fall and i only drive 3-4 thousand miles a year in this vehicle so it's possible the lights have been on since then...Is there a way to adjust pedal height? Is there a missing shim on my rake pedal lever? Thanks for your time.

Adjustment

Did you adjust the plunger on the new switch? Once it is clicked in, you need to press down on the pedal and reach behind the back side of the switch, use your thumb nail and pull the plunger out. Then the pedal will re-seat it.

BTW - if you bought the JC Whitney switch, it will be loud and fail in 6 months. Mine did anyway X2. Need a good one.

I actually keep a spare in the car.
