Looking for some wisdom here guys. Been digging around my 91 RRC replacing and fixing piece by piece. It's pretty damn cold here in Atlanta and I don't have any heat blowing out on any settings. I have strong heat coming in from the top defrost vents from the cowl, but nothing else. I'm debating ripping apart the dash and replacing heater core and heater fan, but want to make sure that is my last resort.

1) I've checked all fuses and relays - no signs of short or burn out
2) Replaced the heater/fan resistor pack - restored all ac/fan speed settings that were previously non functional, but still no heat
3) Smell a small electrical burning smell when I engaged the heater function - no noise from the driver's side fan

Could I have heater fan switches blown behind the climate control or do you think stop wasting my time, order the kit from AB and start bagging and tagging the dash?

ive replaced the heater assembly a few times in my 91...but what i would do is get another assembly and make the repairs to it first then remove and replace...and the ac and heater have two seperate fans if you turn on the heat and no blowing it is the motor...you might trying to turn the fan with a stick... you can access it through the front next to the resistor pack...in the center...and you do have to take the dash apart but no biggie... just a little time consuming....and if you have heat comeing through the defrost sounds like the core is ok...good luck

Keep in mind that you only get heat out of the top of the dash (defrosters) and underneath (heat). You will never get heat out of the vents that are facing you. They are only for fresh air and a/c. Also, there is only one fan stuck up in the heater box. You don't have a fan on each side. The fans under the passenger footwell are only for circulation A/C.

Mike - Yea when I turn on the heat there is no blowing and no sound. If I'm rolling down the road though the heat comes out of the top defrost pretty well. I'm not afraid to take the dash apart - just a time consuming affair as you know.

Thanks Paul - just for shits and grins (and I haven't had time to pull the climate control plate yet) would a blown/corroded heater switch behind the climate control prevent the heater motor from engaging on?

Also - I've seen tstat issues preventing the heaters from working on a few threads (unless I've been staring at these threads for too long). Of note the PO bypassed the factory tstat and installed an inline mech Bosch tstat. I forget why...It works perfect and always has, never registering the RRC over 190, but could that somehow be causing the heater fan not to engage when called on?
