I want to replace the engine with a recent GM pickup truck V8 for more power and better fuel economy. Does anyone have any experience with this?

Keep in mind the land rover motor was designed from useing a 1963 buick(skyhawk and skylark 3.8 v6 odd fire engine and it uses the same timeing as the land rover engine that they bought and used for there v8's so there is conversions for your engine, like going to carbs instead of injections, just trying to help out. so look up the buick engine 3.8, give it a shot.

Oh, it can be done.

Keep in mind, it will cost you. If the only reason for a swap is mileage gains then finacially speaking, that is one hell of a long term investment before you ever recover your cost.

If your engine is on its last leg and soon to be reworked or replaced, then a 350 swap would an understandable choice. You can almost buy parts at 7-11 for a chevy 350.

I like the idea myself. I am waiting patiently for the old girl to fall over and die but in no way am I rushing it.

When it does, a 350 swap will certainly be the approach I take.

If money is going to be flowing, might as well make it worth while and take a little power trip along the way.

BTW... when that does happen you will not find a LUCUS product anywhere near this truck. LOL

Thanks for the info

Apparently GM makes an alloy truck V8, the LM4. I am following up on the link to www.marks4wd.com and will post any info I get. If anyone has already done this conversion I would sure appreciate any guidance/advice.

Thanks!

One thing to remember with the 350 is the difference in torque that the engine will make. You will need to update your drivetrain, as in HD axles, and so forth to compensate for the added torque. Otherwise, you WILL snap something.
