Giday hoping someone can help me. I have a disco 2 and the alternator went bad. As I was fixing it I found to my horror that the positive side of the battery is connecting to the chassis. When I have the negative lead disconnected from the battery and have the positive connected if I touch the negative battery terminal to the engine I get 12.40v reading.

I have done 2 other maintenance jobs. I have replaced the seal on the rocker cover and I replaced the injector wiring harness under the rocker. Of course I have pulled out the alternator and put it back. At the moment the alternator is not on the car but still getting the cross polorisation.

Any guesses/hints much appreciated else this could be the end for the old girl

Much appreciated for any advice Peter.
