I'm doing an engine rebuild of my 4.6 in my 03 discovery and I can provide any close ups on areas that someone might need for reference. And if anyone has anything that they know of that should be done to the engine before it all goes back together, let me know. Here are some pictures that of the motor and chassis and transmission. And let me just say that when taking this rover apart, it is just so well built. Almost everything have guides, keyways or line up dowels so it would be hard to mess up if your don't know what your are doing. Also from taking to the engine people around town, the original block that this is based on is an old, I think 60's, Buick 215 v8. But WOW

Want to know why Buick abandoned it in the early 60's? Problems with oil and coolant sealing as well as clogged radiators from coolant being incompatible with aluminum.

Where would one buy the top hat sleeves, or does a machine shop have to make them

While you have such great access to the frame I would waxoyl the inside and POR 15 the outside. These frames have been showing a propensity for rusting through along the seams and behind the catalytic convertors.
Can you summarize the steps on how to do this? I am planning on doing this on ours this fall. We don't want to lose another one to a rusty frame.

Know I don't want to know what comes next. Probably going to send the engine to Great Plains rovers and have it resleeved with the top hat sleeves. Will send the block and the pistons and the crank. Anyone have any experience with Great Plains?

Wow man can I ask why your putting all this money into this thing your going to end up spending more than the cars worth I mean if your passionate about it then ya believe in it but the way things are going at the moment is it really going to be worth it , you said it was time for a rebuild but sending it off to get more work done=a lot of money , I love my disco 2 but to put all that in it , it would be better to buy another and wait for that to drop but respect man rover on!!!! Keep up with the pics

I bought this rover about 8 months ago for my first vehicle. I know that it is going to be super expensive and I kinda wish that when I was in the market that I would have payed at little more for one that would have ran better. BUT once it is finally complete, it will be like new. Engine will have 0 miles, body will have some fresh paint, and the frame will be sealed. I so plan to keep my disco as long as I live, so I believe that it will be worth it in the end.

About to start to do the meat of the rebuild, finally. Going to do it in house and save major money. Going to get the top hat sleeves from turner engineering uk, and a stage 2 cam for crower. Don't know where and how I'm doing bearing and turning the crank.
