Has anyone done a complete tare down of the hitch. The stainless 1/4" pin that just sticks out the top seams like its made for a spring over it but there was none in there. The pin just sits on top of the main shaft to stop it from going out to far from what I can tell. I'm going to look up into the mount shaft to see if there is something that would give it some tension, can't see it staying there with just gravity. And yes everything was dirty as hell.

there is no spring

The pin just slides back and forth - the key bit keeps the pin from retracting when the key is in the locked position.

The jpg shows the newer shorter less long hitch and has the pin extended.

The other "plow" style is the original longer hitch.

Both have the newer "red" key lock mechanism that supersedes the older black coloured keys.
