Frustrated

Starter's been taking 6-8 tries before it catches so I replaced it. After install, lights came on but not a peep from the starter or engine and it blew my starter fuse. Tried a different "new" starter. Same result. I reinstalled my old starter and everything worked, but still 6-8 tries to get the engine turned over. I got my old starter retooled and reinstalled. It started once or twice then just spins. Error coded for camshaft position sensor so I replaced it, charged the battery, checked for pinched wires, blown fuses. Nada. Still won't start. Any ideas?

Does the engine crank over but not fire? Or just no starter motion at all?

Any current DTCs?

I'm at a point where I only use OEM, or aftermarket which are a known quality application for the vehicle. Too much aftermarket stuff is just chineesium junk these days... luck if it lasts more than a week or two. Rebuilt OEM is probably OK.
Cranks over but no fire. Just cleaned MAF this morning and reset the comp. Still no fire.
Starter seems to try but cant turn the engine over. Flywheel is intact (no teeth missing) and isnt not locked up.
Previously the starter turned the engine over but it would not start. Now the starter will not turn the engine over as if the battery is down?

No. It sounds like the bendix isnt engaging. The starter catches and turns, but wont crank completely. Then After 10 or 12 tries, it catches and starts the engine.
That sounds a lot like missing teeth in the flywheel. Are you sure the starter is bolted down securely; is there a bolt missing?
Damaged fw what I suspected too. But visual inspection shows no teeth missing. I'm dumbfounded. Just ordered a new crank position sensor today. Ill post if it cures the prob. Thanks for brainstorming with me.
Good luck. Interested. Does not seem like a bad CPS can cause it not to engage the flywheel.
Tons of chatter about the CPS going bad prompted it. Its a hail Mary. Lol Ill let you know if it works. I love my rover so updating the unit wont be a loss, even if it doesnt fix the prob.
Vehicle runs great until it gets hot, then it just quits. Will turn over with starter but will absolutely not fire again. Engine cools down; it starts fine again and runs well until it heats up. Then the cycle continues.

That is typically the symptom of a bad CPS. So I am guessing that may not be your problem.
well that definitely doesnt sound like what Im dealing with here. Smh Guess Ill just shelf it until I need it. Any suggestions on what to try next?
Redtruck, V50 M66 - anyone out there have an idea?
You were right. After MUCH sweat effort we got the new crankshaft position sensor installed. No improvement. :-(
Someone will likely respond; it just takes time.

Problem solved! New starter. Old one was rebuilt twice and obviously rebuilt poorly both times. New starter cranked it right up.
Unbelievable. But get back to us in a week and let us know if it is fixed. Just saying. It's a Land Rover.

Good luck. And you have a new CPS.
