The mysterious stream of fuel spraying from under my Classic after it ran a couple of minutes is solved. It is not the tank which was being recalled for several years of Classics. It is not the fuel lines themselves. I pulled the carpets up in the back and removed the access panel so I could see the top of the fuel pump. It sits in a shallow depression on the top of the tank, has a large plastic screw-off cover, two metal lines which go into the pump itself, and various wiring for the pump and sending unit. I take it all apart, and start it up. No wait for fuel spray this time! Gas is shooting out of the metal line! The "wait" which I experienced before, the time from starting the engine to actually seeing fuel leaking on the ground, was caused by the shallow depression in the tank filling with gas, then overflowing and running down the outside of the tank. I feel lucky there was no explosion. Not wanting to replace a pump which works fine to fix a metal pipe leak. Any SAFE way to repair?

It turns out the problem is in both short metal necks which hook up to the rubber fuel hose and then curve and go down into the metal top pump plate. They are rotted and about broke when I unscrewed the fittings. The rest of the pump is fine; when the tubes pass below the pump top plate, they become shiny and solid again. I'm hoping to either buy or make some new tubes as the rest of the pump is fine.
