Hello I'm jamie. I'm from Washington state. I recently purchased a garaged 2003 range rover HSE with less than 49,000 miles on it. It was garaged for 8 years. I flushed all the fluids out. It has a new battery. BUT something happened and before I could reprogram the key fob it locked me out after 4 months of perfect use and I haven't been able to drive it or find the issue for a year now.

Do you still have the owners manual? there is a way to bypass the ignition disable if you have something called the EKA code. if you have that google "how to input EKA code Land Rover discovery II". Other wise I believe you need an automotive locksmith that can reprogram the key fob to the land rover. several Generic ones can be purchased off ebay...this is the same pickle I am in currently, although our 2004 land rover only worked 1 day before the alarm went off without a working key fob, I have been locked out of the ignition ever since.

i'm confused, you recently purchased the truck, but then you drove it without issue for four months, your key lost sync, and you haven't been able to drive it for a year? that timeline accounts for 16 months.

why does it have a new battery? was that before or after the lockout? if it's really sat for a year, you'll likely have a lot of PM to do before hopping in and motoring.

can you let yourself into the car manually with the key and cycle the ignition on?

I was able to get a $50 key with FOB off of Ebay, then had an automotive locksmith come out for $100 to cut and program one key. it took him around 20min. THe key FOB was working, but then lost sync after he left not sure why, but I was still super happy because I could drive the car again. I think having the key fob at least sync and unlock the car a few times actually re-enabled the ignition.

If it lost sync immediately after the locksmith left, could you not call him back? Was there no guarantee that it would work for at least some time?

Unfortunately I never got the manual so does that mean I have to physically go to a dealer or will they let me call? I live 2 hours from a dealer. Ugh.

Reverend....it actually sat in a garage for 8 years before I bought it. We changed out all fluids and did flushes, also why it needed a new battery. The key fob never worked for me, I bought a new battery for that as well. I bought it in February of last year, 2018. I drove it until June 2018, it has now been sitting dead since. It has become a beautiful lawn ornament. I seriously hate walking near it because I cry. Dont laugh, I'm so serious. I have no clue what to do. None. I feel like I've tried everything. I even have a locksmith helping me and he is stumped too. ????

AND I had to take the door lock cylinder completely out and use a long Philips screwdriver inside the driver's door to unlock the doors. The key does absolutely nothing in the door or the ignition. I have had the battery fully charged and lights come on inside but the key does nothing. It acts as if the key is the wrong one.

are you saying that the key will not physically turn in the door or the ignition? or that it turns but does nothing?

The key turns in the door but nothing happens and the key does not turn at all in the ignition. It goes into the key hole and nothing more.

if the key turns in the door, why did you have to remove the lock cylinder?

you might consider replacing the driver door lock/latch assembly. the microswitch may have failed and it may not be "unlocking" the car electronically

you should order an LR friendly code reader like the foxwell, and see if you're getting "suspicious starting activity"
