I have no idea but thought someone here would be able to help me out...

She is not idling to much she just seems to over rev between gears....that is before the shift it is normally about 30mph and 2000rpm,then it is 50mph and about 3000rpm.

But now the revs before the kick down to the next gear are over 4000RPM as high as 6000rpm to get up to 70mph?????????????????? THe first kickdown is at 5000rpms

Of course I cant drive home on the fwy as sitting at 60mph the engine is revving at 5500rpms

Are you sure you're in Overdrive and not 3rd?
Count the clicks back from Park.
One is Reverse
Two is Neutral
Three is Overdrive
Four is 3rd.

If this is not the case is your transmission getting to 3rd on the shifts?

I am in D - the tranny is hitting high gear - which is 4th right???? Is the issue just shifting into gears? Or is it overreving?

I would guess you are slipping. As the truck gets close to the shift point something is happening that is allowing the RPMs to climb higher than necessary. I'd take it to a tranny shop to have it checked out.

I know you can change the balls in the valve body to change the shift points to make a tranny shift "harder" like in a racing sorta way.

I think it's something with the transmission.

Yeah - I think I have dianosed it to linkages or something like that related to the tranny - I am hoping the shop I took it just now can fix it...I will post the problem here when it is found.

Not the Tranny????????

Dunno if anyone has had this but here goes...

Symptoms = Overrevving in nuetral, and revving high before going into gear, gear transfers are hard and final gear is revving around 4000rpms at 60MPH - about double the normal revs.

Solution = Throttle Valve! - this little bugger controls the timing via air pressure of the shifting of gears. It is a bunch of cables and valves near the main throttle cable. The entire valve body was gone, the cable was worn and had come out of the valve body.

Cost - to me ~$1,000 :buttrock: ....only because the bloke found a reconditioned one because new they are a thousand bucks, parts alone!!!:complain:

Anyway good news is she back and happy, and I found a wonderful transmission mechanic in Wilmington, NC.

HEy, well how about that. I was pretty close on my guess. Weeeeeeeeeeeee!!!111
I'm getting pretty good at this!

Glad you found it. Good news is you'll have new fluid in there as well as a new valve body. Saves you the trouble of that whole mess.
