It's the second time in six years I own my 94-D1 !

Again the same old symptoms : coolant vanishing from the engine, some "hot water" smell while putting the heater "on" and then a wet fog coming on each and every glass panel, causing nice blue/green halo !!!

OK, so I know the cause, I know the problem, and I read from here that I'm not the only one !

My question : what can cause the stupid aluminium part to fail so fast ? It looks like it is corroded from the inside, but ... electrophoresys, maybe ?

And what brand of coolant do you -lucky people w/o heater core problems- use ?

Greetings from an icy Belgium

Don't feel like Rovers are the only vehicles that loose their heater core. Whatever coolant you use, change it yearly and you will slow down the failures.
Good luck,

Well, thanks, I'll tell you about the results in a couple of days !
2 days to dismantle, 2 more to reassemble... and there I am for another 1091 days before next replacement ! ;-)

By the way, if someone in Europe had a beige dashboard for a D1, i'm a buyer : I'll use the opportunity to change the genuine curling one

check for electrolysis. A known heater core failure on fords was electrolysis of the coolant caused by a bad ground or something else.

I indeed began giving a thought ... but : the heater casing is aluminium, and the alu pipes through the firewall connect to rubber hoses ... So i'm wondering where I could find a bad ground in there ?

Any idea ?
