How do you think I lost the other one?!:)

I have built two 30 degree steel pieces for the front of both of them that attaches where the rubber used to go but I still need the other one.. They have 3 fastening points behind the iron that make them deflect when they get yanked against..

Just like everything else on a LR.... you have to rebuild it to get it to work on the trail :)

Lose the other one before something on the trail rips it off. The problem with this style is they stick out and when they come off they usually take the rivnut and a quarter size piece of sheetmetal with it.
Yeah, I know how that is.

It's actually a pretty stupid design for off-roading. They should be hinged on the side closest to the boot door and just snap in to a clip on the wing side. That way, when the outer edge catches on something they will pop open, rather than ripping a hole in the car.

The rubber fitting has all the elements of how inexpensive can we make this.... although I don't really understand why they didn't just make the front AND the back glue to the body. That way it would have just torn off either way.

I like gadgets and I haven't seen another type for that year model...its not like they actually do any "guarding" anyway.

Going through all my roof lights and aux electrical right now adding switches and relays and labeling every non-OEM wire that I have installed to date. Also adding Hell roarer and second battery to engine compartment.

I will post it after it is done.....I am close...bout 2 weeks in smoking hot E Texas Garage.

Off subject...are the bottles that are used for air carried on board "nitrogen bottles" I cannot remember and cant get ahold of the Brit in the club that used to have them..

There is actually another design, but they are incredibly hard to find. BA105 - Rear Lamp Guards for Discovery 1 | LR Parts
That said, I really don't see the point to ANY light guards. Any guard tough enough to protect the light will have to be securely mounted to the body, which means when a branch or rock grabs it you will be left with bad body damage. Any guard that is designed to "give way" when something catches it won't provide adequate protection to the light its attempting to guard.
IME no light protection is the way to go. Over the years I've gathered probably a half dozen rear lights and just put them in a box. I haven't needed them yet, though. Even when I dragged the side of my truck along a washed out bank it didn't hurt the light. The whole side was trashed and the rear passenger side corner was separated at the seam to the quarter panel, but the light was unharmed. :)
