I had the same problem on my 99MY Discovery. Had to get a new steering lock assembly from the dealer as the don't sell the barrel separately.

I have since heard that having alot of other keys on your keyring pulls the ignition down in the barrel causing excessive wear!! On mine you could see the wear in the key slot. ( Now I only have the ignition key on the keyring and carry house keys separately).

You could try a liitle light oil (like 3 in 1) in the lock as this mignt help free it off.
