Brought my Disco to the dealer today...Fault codes P1300 and P1316 (don't really know what they mean) however, the technician said that "off market" ignition wires were installed and thats what was causing the engine to misfire.

Has anyone else run into this problem?

Plug Wires

Boy were you fed a story. The only difference between a good set of aftermarket plug like Magnacor 8mm. wires is that they are far superior both in quality and voltage delivery.
What year is your truck, how many miles on it and what spark plugs are in it???

So how about a boy friend or neighbor, got to be someone out there that would like to help you with this little project.

1300 and 1316 are multiple misfires and misfires causing excessive emissions.

Question is your vehicle still running rough?

Its possible the codes were in there when he fixed the car and caused it from having something loose.

If it isnt running rough, then spray the wires with water. not too much. get them wet and the engine will begin to run rough if there is a problem. Can they cause a problem yes, They could be cheaper wires that are just poorly built.

If is running rough all the time then check all the connections to make sure the wires are snug against the plugs and ignition coil. just push on them to seat them.

the only other possibility would be some carbon in the combustion chambers because they broke loose after doing the head gaskets. its unlikely but not unheard of in an engine rebuild. but most of the time that gets kicked out after starting up and letting it warm up.

Plug Wires

An easier test would be to start your truck one night when it is dark, open the hood and look for sparks coming from any of the plug wires, then wiggle one at a time as a final test.
This will tell you for sure if you have a major wire leak, past that you must have someone check the engine with a scope to verify a good spark and even more importantly that each cylinder is firing equally with the rest.
Good luck,

At Mike's advice, I picked up some magencor 8mm and I'm happy how they perform.

Where do I find these?

What did they install?

Where are you in CT? Do you plan on taking your LR offroad? I'm asking because we have a group going up to Florida Road and MaBell (Mass.) this month and wanted to see if you or anyone else in the New England area was interested in joining us.

BTW, I grew up in Waterbury, CT....

I had the wires installed at the Land Rover dealership in Canton, CT. The invoice doesn't say what kind.

Just got the Disco in August and have not gotten a chance to take it off the road....would love to see what this truck can do. This month is out, but keep me in mind for future outings!

BTW, my best friend grew up in Waterbury CT!!!

Your site doesn't have the 8.5mm wires, though, John.
We do have them but our site hasn't been updated (damn webmaster), I'm meeting up with our web developer this weekend and should have everything straightened out by next week. But call me for the special pricing (845) 667-9300!

Felix,
You don't need 8.5 mm wires unless you are running with headers, other wise it would be overkill.

I have an MSD ignition on the way, and headers will come when I do the exhaust (February project?).

John, I'll get with you later next week about the wires, I need to get my new coil in first.
What headers are you installing? Just curious.
