I am strongly considering importing a few Series 109's or so from England to here in CA... anyone with any importing experience into the US, please speak up... costs, headaches, whatever you can share would be great!

While you're sneaking them in anyways, could you grab me an '05 D110?

Containers come in 20 and 40 feet. The container isn't expensive to rent (a couple hundred bucks) it's all the other fees that kill you. Normally it would cost around $2,500 to bring in a container but you might have to pay a couple of grand more (other expenses). Broker fee is around $250, bond, duty, paperwork fees, etc.

The folks at the RoversClub bring in a container once or twice a year. Check out this article Tom Bache wrote on the subject.

One more thing, it might be easier and cheaper to import to East Coast and then have it transported to the West Coast. I'll help in anyway I can if you decide to import to Newark.

FYI, I'm importing a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe (RHD) and the quote I got was around $2,500 but I'm projecting to spend close to $4,000. I plan on shipping RO/RO which is a bit cheaper.

Hope this helps

About $2000 US for a 20 footer, $4000 US for a 40HC (High Cube) to Europe from Savannah, GA or Charleston, SC. Another $1000 US for crating, decking, shoring, labor, etc. A big concern is making sure your vehicle is loaded correctly. If not you'll end up with body damage. The trucking to the point of departure is usually the hardest. Stop and go with the rig will reak havoc on a load. Surprisingly, the ship ride, and crane that loads the containers are pretty smooth (unless the ship hits some storms and takes on water, then you got potential salt water damage). As for the registration and such, can't really help. I only know a little about shipping. Although, it's easier to register a vehicle in the south than it is up north or in Cali. Good luck. I'd like to have a Defender, blue, do they make one in that color? :D
