Containers come in 20 and 40 feet. The container isn't expensive to rent (a couple hundred bucks) it's all the other fees that kill you. Normally it would cost around $2,500 to bring in a container but you might have to pay a couple of grand more (other expenses). Broker fee is around $250, bond, duty, paperwork fees, etc.
The folks at the RoversClub bring in a container once or twice a year. Check out this article Tom Bache wrote on the subject.
One more thing, it might be easier and cheaper to import to East Coast and then have it transported to the West Coast. I'll help in anyway I can if you decide to import to Newark.
FYI, I'm importing a 1941 Ford Super Deluxe (RHD) and the quote I got was around $2,500 but I'm projecting to spend close to $4,000. I plan on shipping RO/RO which is a bit cheaper.
