I see items on ebay advertising they improve gas mileage by 31%. They look like about 2" stainless cut to swirl incoming air. Do they work? Any other suggestions on how to get above 15 mpg on a 4.0 liter Disco I? (Tires are already inflated correctly, new spark plugs and wires, etc...I also use the A/C quite a bit, being from Texas.)

That turbonator thing is a scam they don't work.

Wade,
I have one one my 99 DII, I picked up about 1/2 MPG on the highway and npthing in town. Yes, they are not worth the money.
How many miles are on your truck? have you changed out the O2's?
What size tires are you running?
Have you ever de-carboned your engine?
All of the above can help your mileage. By the way, I cut off my resonator and got nearly 1/2 more per gallon.
That being said, my 99DII with 265's, 4:11 gears and an extra 900 #'s of MODS. gets 15 plus at 70MPH, about 12 in town.

Answers on mileage...I guess avg. 15 is about right.

The truck has 104,000 miles and has been decarboned. Supposedly the O2 sensors were changed at about 96000 miles. The tires are 16s. We get 17 on the hwy and with in town driving average about 15. I'm not unhappy with that. You can buy a lot of gas for what a new truck costs. Diff fluids were just changed. Thanks to all who contributed.

Here you go guys, just copied this accross from another post here and yes they do work, well on mine at least.... Mine is a 1993 Discovery fitted with the 3.5i V8, auto box and has a Blaster2 coil. I did the math very much spot on and when you look at the kms covered it did return me way better than without it. No doubt I will have some loss when the supercharger goes on in a few days but hey, not fussed about the MPG at all, just the grunt!!! Enjoy :)

QUOTE:
Well guys, it came last saturday and here are the results from this weeks general running, I have covered 1,840kms this week:

Time to fit, 5 mins.
Cost, $25.00 inc freight ($36.00 NZD)
MPG prior fitting, 18mpg (UK Gal) on freeway/motorway.
MPG after fitting unit, 24mpg (UK Gal) on freeway/motorway.

MPG towing 2.1 tons inc trailer prior to fitting unit, 14.6mpg (UK Gal)
MPG towing 2.1 tons inc trailer after fitting, 18.9mpg (UK Gal)

So hey, it works not too sure re the extra 16% power it is said to give but it runs very smooth now. I recon 16% is so small its just not worth counting!!! No more issues with the idle too so that makes me smile big time. Just a wait now for the electric supercharger to arrive and see if that make a diff

If I put a whole stack of them in the snorkel, would I qualify for Federal tax credit? I figure that should put me better than a Prius. Add some Acetone and that turbolator exhaust tip, and I should be in the 70mpg range.

Plain '95, 17 on the highway at 60mph. 15mpg at 85mph.
Peanut 95 with 33's and a 4.6, 16 hwy at 60mph, 15 at 85mph.
Both get around 12 in town, much less with the 1/2 hour winter warmups.

I have a computer that records my OBDII stream in real time- I used it to do a test of the acetone theory and without fail, it does work. I'm not willing to run it long term though since acetone is horribly corrosive.

What is in Seafoam?

Anyone have a can sitting around?
SeaFoam is stuff you pour into a vacume hose on your throttle body(?) and it cleans the carbon off your valves and ****. good stuff in these Rover V8s. i got it at Napa.

Hey Muddy Oval, not a sarky comment at all mate, all I do know is this, I covered over 1,800 kms in that single week and from clocking the previous kms for the past 2 months the figures speak for themselves.... No I dont sell them, I dont know anybody who does sell them and I would'nt tell you where to get one either as there are so many dealers selling them. Can tell you this though, a mate in England bought one for his Ford Mondeo and it only gave him 3 miles per gal more but it all adds up ;) I do way too many miles every week to get it wrong and most of the longer trips are on semi straight roads where I do a steady 65/70mph, furthermore the trips each week are the same drop off & collection trips too.... Go figure........

I am still a little taken back over the Acetone additive. I have used seafoam on several occasion and agree, great stuff! I run it in the fuel to clean the injectors occasionally and have put through the vac line... watch that smoke someone will think you are on fire. LOL

Acetone... wow! Never would have thought.

Mud, do you think this add any lasting benefit or is it only good while present in the fuel?

The two times I replaced my O2 sensors I picked up some extra mileage.
Diff fluids x2.
Got a roof rack? Remove it.
Got a big bumper with hellas or similar? Go back to stock.
Slow down. But other than that?

YEah. I pretty much have given up on gas mileage.
But if it makes you feel any better.
SUVs really piss off the Greenpeace guys.
