I can't believe it but I pulled the wanker move of the century. I just installed the disco cup holder on the driver side of my console after researching it for a while. Immediately after, my radio won't come on, rear wiper doesn't work etc. I pulled the ashtray and quickly realized that I screwed through the wiring sleeve. Has anyone else done this or have advise as to the best way to fix it? Can I gently cut open the sleeve and simply repair the wires or do I need to know more? Thanks for any help.

Pull the cubby out, there will be two big-ass bolt heads visible.

Now, before you jump in and try (note try) to loosen them, get under the truck and spray them down with Kroil.

Now, do it again.

Again.

Again...

Yeah, they'll be rusted pretty good.

Now, remove those two screws, pry off the top of your gear shift, use a 3/4" deep well socket to remove the nit, not the E-clip and slide the shfiter off. Gently feel around under the back of the shifter, you should be able to snap it loose by pulling from teh back.

Now, disconnect the wires you can see to the shifter, you'll also need to remove the window switch panel as well.

Lift the centre console up and pull back gently-there may be two more screws near the front on the sides visible through the shifter aperture.

Now, you can get to fixing those wires.

No, I haven't done that, but I have done a lot of blower motors and LT-230 conversions.

Good luck, be careful the plastic is brittle with age and not obtainable new and practically impossible to solvent-weld.

Yes, you can just repair the harness. The screw is causing a short to ground. With any luck no wires have become severed and once the screw is removed and insulation repaired everything will work as it should once more.

The trick will be getting to it. See above.

Wow, you are good, able to tell that the circuits go to ground, and not to each other, or other circuits.

Haha, funny. Good to see your still alive and kicking.

Perhaps you should warn him some more about rusty bolts on an old Range Rover?;)

I broke many of those before I realized maybe, just maybe if I prepared better, it might go better.

The only thing better than the Rover business is the tool business!

Got it

Thanks for the response guys. I disassembled the entire center console and worked it out then put everything back together. I fixed it and learned more about my rig in the process. Cheers.
