My name is Ryan, I have owned a 2000 Discovery 2 for 17 years and have put 110,000 miles on it. I currently live in Los Angeles, California.

I did not have any automotive experience before owning this vehicle, but it sure has taught me a lot! Like most of you out there it all began when shops wanted to charge $$$$ for repairs and services that could be done myself for a few bucks in parts and often no more than an hour of work. Most standard services as recommended by Atlantic British/Pacific Rover I have done myself with relative ease.

I find myself more engaged with the LANDROVERSONLY now because my head gaskets have never been done and I am wanting to research as much about it as possible. If I do the job myself it will be the most I have really ever worked on my vehicle (really getting in there!). The problem is I live in the city and I don't really have a good driveway to do the job slowly—*where I can decide to replace some other hoses or parts while I'm in there. Plus it is much more technical than anything I've done before, so I'm assuming I should take my time with it.

Looking forward to all your expert knowledge.

cheers!

Hello, not a current LR owner but looking to learn more about the latest Discovery. May purchase one in future for family hauling duties.

My history with LR is that I used to ride around in Defender 110 when I was a lot younger.

Currently use and operate three cars - 2 MBs and a Lexus. The family SUV is an Acura MDX which may get replaced by the Discovery. Would like to know more about LR reliability, service etc.
Thanks all.

To be honest, this site is geared more towards people with the older vehicles. The regulars here are all either enthusiasts or mechanics and we have an ever-changing cast of short-time participants with broken trucks who split once back on the road. We have few if any regulars who have new or couple year old RR's.

As far as the newer one's, if you buy new, get the extended warranty. If you keep it, it will most likely pay for itself. If you trade it after a few years, it will help you get better value for your trade. These are very expensive vehicles to repair and still carry with them the stigma of the quality issues of years past, so the warranty has definite value. If you're looking at a couple years old, get a professional, independent pre-purchase inspection and a good, well-inclusive warranty from a very reputable provider. If you're buying new, or a used one with the Rover warranty, and you live more than a brief distance from a dealer, you may want to re-think the Rover. Finding a good independent specialist for after-warranty service and repair can be challenging as well.

Hi Everyone! I'm a brand spanking new member of the forum and look forward to hopefully sharing some good ol' Landy stories, as well as hopefully helping to share a little of my own knowledge from over the years.

I'm the proud new owner of a 1984 Series III, LWB and ex-military. It's the 4cyl petrol model and the previous owner fitted a Fairey overdrive (which I am in the process of fixing) and also painted the car a hideously bright blue; something I plan to change once the hard work is done!

I work as a TV producer in London but spend my weekends out in the country, often wild camping (just fancy chat chat for sleeping rough isnt it?) and generally trying to get away from it all.

I refer to my landy as Hank the Tank, so apologies if that creeps out on here.

Thanks for listening!

Hello LRO,

Recently bought a 99 Disco II in oxford blue. This is my first car! And has been my dream car for a while. Got a good deal on it with 113k miles, new brakes, new cylinder heads, gasket, and belt.

I'll be starting my first modifications in a couple weeks, here's what I'm doing:
- 2" MD OME lift
- OME Steering Damper
- TF Steering Rod HD Kit
- TF Panhard Rod (on backorder :crying)
- Skeleton Shock Towers (w/isolators front and rear)
- Lucky8 Black Steelies
- 265/75r16 Goodyear DuraTracs

I'll be doing everything myself except putting on the new wheels and tires. Looking forward to sharing the build with you and hearing any pointers/tips.

Hey all,

On sunday I'm taking delivery of a low milage, clean, apparently well maintained 03 Disco, my first after searching for over a year. I've been lurking around here for a while and just joined tonight and am looking forward to all the shared info and knowledge you all have. I've owned a lot of cars and motorcycles and do most of my own maintenance and am really looking forward to the disco - I've been eyeing them for years. The help I've gotten on different forums has always been amazing and as a total newb with Rovers, I'll probably ask some idiotic questions, just know I'm glad to be here.

Hey all of you Rover buddies!

I'm new to this forum, but not new to Rovers. I'm on my second Disco II, and belong to multiple Rover groups in the MidAtlantic region. I was originally from the Washington DC area, but moved out to the Eastern Shore of MD about 15 years ago.

My first Disco II was a 1999 SE7, with lots of modifications by the previous owner. I wasn't interested in offroad driving at all; I bought the truck as a fishing truck because my wife was tired of me leaving fish and bait in the back of her Jeep. So I bought the Disco on eBay for $5,000 as a fishing truck. When I took it to my local Land Rover dealership to get a duplicate key made, two of the guys there asked me to join their offroad driving club - so I did. I totally got hooked after our first camping/trail-riding trip. My '99 died a few months after I drove it into the ocean - the salt water got into the cooling fan and locked it up, and then the engine overheated, and then the block cracked, and that was the end of my '99.

Then, two years ago, I bought my second Rover - a 2004 Disco II HSE in mint condition from New Jersey (garage kept, city truck). I've since made lots of modifications and upgrades. It basically spent the whole first year moving from shop to shop getting upgrades. The most noticeable thing about my Disco II (as compared to other upgraded Disco's) is that my truck is completely covered in LineX bedliner - a combination of black and tan. Other than that, it's mostly all the same upgrades as the other Disco II guys. Time to hit the trails, guys!

My people...

Hi guys,

Ive had a 2000 Land rover discovery 2 since I was in highschool from 06 to now. She is forever my baby and I vow to never get rid of her. She enjoys long drives on the beach and an occasional hike up some trails.

I am joining this thread to learn more about my vehicle and meet some cool people.

WOOO. :grin

Hello fellow LR enthusiasts!

I'm Mike, I currently own a 2005 LR3 HSE. I love the Supercharged RR's and would like to own a special edition in the future, something like the Overfinch or something! It's wife's dream car, too! I've always been fascinated with the amount of tech these vehicles have. I'm an electronics technician by trade, so it's definitely keeping me entertained during my off time. I'm active duty USN, currently stationed in Central Valley, CA but I hail from Juneau, AK. Looking to make the trip up there to AK (56 HOURS one way from where I'm at!) next spring. Should be a blast! :grin

For those within the forums who have helped me already, you mates rock!

New almost owner

I'm Mike and I just inherited a 2004 Discovery G4 from my uncle. It only has 35,300 miles on it and I just drove it from Las Vegas to Tulsa with no issues. However today the 3 amigos showed up. I have always admired the Land Rovers and used to have a 1969 Ford Bronco so I like the 4-wheel drive stuff. Also an engineer and I became one because I liked working on cars, motorcycles, etc. Hoping I can get the title straightened out soon so I can get to going through the truck and start driving it.

Hi everyone, Ernest from San Antonio, TX. I've been thinking of purchasing a D2 or P38. Not sure what I'd be getting myself into as I've read quite a bit of bad stuff. I love the way they look and would be purchasing as a 2nd vehicle to go offload and take some miles off of my current ride (2016 fx4 f150 with over 51K miles).

It seems as though a lot of folks are doing engine swaps on their trucks. Not sure I'd like to that route. I guess I'll be on here quite a bit researching anything that comes to mind. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

Another newbie

Hi everyone - quick intro... my wife has inherited a 1964 Series IIA, and we're both at a loss as to what to do with it. Parts car? A project for someone? Looking for sage advice! We're in BC, Canada.
