This is the second time now, that my brakes go hard with no braking power!
First time mechanic said it was the accumulator (replaced it)...now that it happened again in 2000 mile period, I'm wondering!
So no ABS light, but the traction control light was stuck on with no action in the abs pump, parked it for a few hours then started it back up and everything was normal again!
Both times I think heat was a factor...but don't know the relation!

Any thoughts, still reading the fat book...and will keep you posted!

Both your suggestions sound right on the money! The reason being...one of the first things I did when I got to my drive was put my hand on the relays under drivers seat and they were hot and the pump was not working either at this time!
Second theory makes sense too....some time ago the right front caliper was not backing off and was heating up my shoes to the point that I could smell burning brakes! That went away the next day and problem never came back!
Its a new caliper and mechanic said it may be a clogged return line....but how would that cause my traction control light to come on and temporarily shut the system down!

i had a clog ..it was when a brake like broke...after i fixed the line i had no pressure...pump was working..i couldnt bleed lines...what happened was when the fluid drained out through the pump it cloged the line into the impeller...to find out if it is cloged...while it is running..losen the line on top of the pump that goes to the acumulator..just a bit...if you have pressure it will spray out brake fluid......now this is what i did..and may not be whats wrong ....with your...i will mess with mine.. problems drive me crazy...if i cant fix it ill break it trying...good luck...

I will try that...thank you! This type of thing is definitely one to drive you up the wall because you have to test everything and piece it together!
I did replace the lines to the rear brakes....so I'm wondering, however the pump not working whilst the ETC light was on... is leaning me to a relay.
But definitely first thing I will do is bleed the system...starting with the pump then to the calipers!

Funny though the shop manual has all the information on the ABS system and very limited info (1 page) on the electronic traction control!

Last note....the big question, would a clog somewhere in the system cause the ETC to go into shutdown mode, because again a few hours later I started it back up and pump was working and ETC light shutoff??
