Please don't flame me. I just find it interesting how other companies seem to be crowding into the land rover discovery/LR3 market with the seven passenger seating in a non suburban sized SUV. I was just wondering what other land rover people thought about it.

In my opinion Jeep is doing pretty good, and its nice that LR has some competition. Sadly (like you can read in many posts on this topic) LR is no longer the best4x4xfar4the$$$. Talking only new vehicles, you can get a sweet and new jeep rubicon for around 30k, and sadly the LR3s just cant compete. Ford is in the process of killing LR's future (heritage wise). It really confuses me how they can just sit around and own LR with a great heritage and watch Jeep sell out like crazy w/ the only off road ready vehicle on the market.

WHY!!!!!!!!??!??!?!!!!

As far as the jeep commander and nissan pathfinder go, im sure the jeep sucks off-road. Ive never personally been in one, so im not sure, but I have been in a pathfinder and an xterra off-road and they are horrible. I do love thier commercials but at least those two models are all looks and no real.

You said it...... I like a lot of different cars, land rover is my favorite 4x4..... But when you can buy a jeep for half(or less) then a LR, it makes it hard to compete... Plus here in the USA the D-90 is a soft top option other then that we are out of luck, unless you want to build your own... . A lot of people i know love rovers but want the soft top...

I personally hate soft-top vehicles....they are either hot as hell, or cold as frick, and are very loud w/ wind noise. Even the jeeps hard top is ****. I love D-90's with passion, but they are so expensive. Brand new the UK they are 18,900 pounds, like $35,000 here?? It annoys me that I would have to pay that much for one thats 10 years old and has 35000mi on it.

Why cant land rover just redesign it so its easier to build (because supposedly thats one of the reasons to stop prodution----still mostly hand built) and reproduce it in the US w/ air bags **doh** Also, all you people that complain that you dont want air bags need to shove it. I understand if your vehicle didnt come w/ airbags, np, but I read the most annoying thread someplace where everyone said they dont want airbags....blah blah.. Ill take my airbags anyday, they might break my arm in a small accident, but save my life in a big one; it wouldnt be the standard if it didnt make a difference.

Im now prepared to be destoryed by those who know more than I.

Hold on a gosh darn minute. Did you say a jeep is the only off-road ready vehicle STOCK? Because I would like to take a stock jeep along with my stock disco where we wheeled this weekend. Land Rovers were built to be off-road vehicles, simply put. We don't need to stick a trail-rated sticker on it to prove it. The vehicles speak for themselves. As far as price goes you are paying for 1) name and 2) luxury. Though we may not need all the pretty little gadgets that come along with the price tag, most of us simply enjoy them. Land Rover owners are a different breed because we actually take pride in the hand-built (even though it may cause soem issues) and the history that comes with them. When I showed off my disco to my 95 year old grandpa he asked me when I was going on the next safari! There is just something more within these vehicles that can be explained. I have only had mine for a little over a year and I will never be able to live with out it.

I personally dig that new Commander. I didnt at first, but the more I look at it...

That with the HEMI would just be sick. And still close to the same price as the LR3 which looks like a Honda Element on steroids to me.

Everytime I wish my Disco was faster or newer, I just bottle it up til the weekend and jump on my KTM 450 EXC and let it out on some mountain trails.

Where I live in So Cal, you can sneek a dirtbike onto, and across private property a lot easier then you can a Disco, lol.

agreed rutlanddisco, I love my rover for what it is, but I am more refering to brand new vehicles. Right now LR doesnt have anything that fits into the nitch that the Jeep Wrangler does.

!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If there is a god, then Land Rover would reintroduce a D90. Among other things it would live axles, be coil sprung, as easy to trail fix as possible for an ECU controlled vehicle, optional locking diffs (perhaps in a deal with ARB or maxi-drive, etc. so they would be name brand), optional lift packages (like the Rubicon; we do it to ours, so why not factory. It could also be connected to a major manufacturer, perhaps OME?) Optional winches (perhaps a couple to choose from, ie. some superwinches, rameseys and warns, so when you pic the one you want they just put on a multipurpose mount and mount it up.), stock skidplates, optional diff guards, optional rock sliders, optional snorkel, optional steel wheels, optional roof rack, optional Hella Rallye 4000's, optional CB radio/antenna, opitonal GPS, standard BFG A/T's (like Hummer II/III's), optional BFG M/T's, Standard V8 or = power (heard they are planning 08' D90's w/ 6cyl), optional TD5 or =, standard center locking diff, optional steel bumper (not grill guard, bumper), and a 1000000 more things that I cant think of atm.

Hailsharky, im with ya there on the commander, but off-road wise, think Grand Cheerokee, then think bigger. As far as an everyday vehicle it looks pretty good, but I would make sure its got some sort of "displacement on demand" system....the new charger does on its HEMI's. If you dont know what it is you have to check it out, its better than hybrids in my opinion because there are no batteries to replace.

Then we would have nothing to do on the weekends that we can't wheel!!!

J/K I understand your point. LR here in the US is moving more towards luxury, high end Hollywood vehicles that are capable off road, but prefer not to. I for one don't really like the LR3 and the new range rovers are too pricey. I am going to stick with the older models, and definetly want to get a defender eventually. I am trying to remain positive about Ford, but we'll see.

Yep, its a bummer, but just tell me rutland, the D90 described would be a godsend. I am going to cry when it comes out with independent air suspension and in the brochure they call the optional 18" chrome wheels "Rims" (or "DUBs", lol).

From what Ive read, they all share the same MDC HEMI. The one that can shut down 4 cylinders on the highway then as quickly as you can say waitress!, turn on the other 4 giving you all 8 firing again.

Rutlanddisco.. you bring up good points... I will not give up my rover for a jeep, i love it......But Jeep is going for that off-road group/image.. Rover is gearing more toward the high end luxury.... I hope that stops, but i guess we will see

I think its so kick ass.....I was drooling when it first appeared on the Honda Oddesey. I remember thinking that it was going to be "the future". Im totally pro "displacement on demand" (DOD), im awaiting the honda civic that goes from 2cyl to 8, and gets 38mpg, hehe

But seriously, its a much better idea then hybrids. Hybrids are great, but after something like 6-7 years you must replace the batteries for like $3k, assuming that they even manufacture them anymore after two changes (14 years). Plus before toyota discontinued its Echo, it had a car that without a hybrid system, got nearly 45mpg!!! This DOD system allows you to get power when you need it and good gas mileage when you dont, its the best of both worlds. Now all they need to do is figure how how to make less parts move when you shut them down, because now; those cyl dont burn fuel, but thier mass is still moving.

also, LR has the crappiest commercials ever.....why cant they be like the Nissan Xterra commercials; coolest ever!! I watch the commercial then dont even know anything about the car, what the hell! Though I did like one of them titled "timeless".

The LR3 commercials lack imagination, agreed. I like the Rover Sport, but only cause I love horses.

For me, as long as I can find parts, my husband and I will stick with old school. Nothing past the '04 D2. At least not until they back away from the overly lux styling.

I swear now that I have taken my baby off road I think it runs quieter and is happier!

Hey, Chevy came out with that shutting cylinders down thing way back in 89, on the first ZR-1!
