I have just bought a Jan 1994 Discovery Tdi 3 door. Can anyone advise whether it is possible to fit jump seats in the rear; are the holes/bolts etc already there or is this a retro fit which cannot be economically done? I just want the ability to be able to carry 2 extra people occasionally short distances. Any input from forum experts gratefully received! Thanks

It's not really possible to do it without major expensive work. The interior panels are different, the floors are different... lots and lots of work.

I have a 98 which was a five seater. Now it is a 6 seater ( I wanted to retain the little cargo pocket area on the otherside).

I ordered a full jump seat kit from a junk yard in Michigan. It came with the panels, most of the brackets (four needed for each side, two upper and two lower, can get missing ones from british atlantic), the seatbelts, the jump seats and most of the hardware (missing also vailable from the BA).

In retrospect, I would reuse the non-seven seater pannels, and just cut slots/holes where needed, but that is just so you could remove the jumpseat(s) when need extra storage room.

Good luck!

Thanks Kieran, I was proposing to cut the slots too but unsure having ready Muddy Ovals comments above - need to check that I have all required holes in metal panels into which to screw brackets. Thanks for taking an interest and sharing your experience with me. Alan

All of the holes will be there. They will be covered with tape, or will have rubber inserts in them.

One thing I had to do was drill a 1/2 hole in the rear upper bracket on the pass. side to allow it to sit flat. There was a bit of weld on the body panel sitting up, preventing the holes in the bracket from lining up with the holes on the body panel.

It is a fun project, and will look factory when you are done. One thing to think about is the grab handle which greatly aids access to the rear.

I attached a few pics which may help.
